I'm your host, Michael Palmer, and today's show is going to be a great one. Our guest is a consulting psychologist with 25 years experience, and she is the founder and author of Building Psychological Fitness. Dr. Karen Dahl, welcome to the show. Thank you for having me, Michael. It's great to have you, and I'm looking forward to this conversation. But before we get into it completely, please, Karen, tell us a little bit about you and your career journey leading up to this point. Sure. So my background as a psychologist is I went to graduate school, got my degree in clinical psychology, and knew that I wanted to work more in organizations and in a corporate setting. So became a consultant and did a lot of work doing leadership assessments and development and then really moved into more coaching and identify as a workplace psychologist. So I've always been on the inside of organizations and promoting mental health and wellbeing. I just haven't really been able to call it that until the last few years. So in the last few years now, I'm, you know, I'm a little more proactive about making sure that I'm identifying, you know, as somebody that's promoting mental health at work and helping managers and leaders have these conversations and help create conditions for their employees to thrive and flourish.
And what was it about the last couple of years that changed? Well, I think, you know, COVID has accelerated some of the conversations and the awareness of mental health, and we're making progress. We still have a ways to go, but I do think that more conversations are happening and some of these challenges are being addressed at work and being talked about at work in a way that is healthy.
