[00:00] Ashley Jocic: So you're juggling all the, the kids' stuff, the at-home stuff. My husband was working full-time, so I didn't have a lot of time to work. I would work during nap time if I didn't have to nap too. And then when my husband came home from work, and our goal was always for me to get about 20 hours a week to work. And sometimes I hit that goal and sometimes I didn't, but we tried to aim for 20 hours.

[01:06] Michael Palmer: Welcome back to the Successful Bookkeeper Podcast. I'm your host, Michael Palmer, and our guest is the owner of Florida Keys Bookkeeping, Ashley Josic. Welcome to the show.
[01:17] Ashley Jocic: Thank you, Michael.
[01:18] Michael Palmer: Yeah, it's great to have you. I always love to start off just letting our listener get a chance to know a little bit about you. And so let's maybe jump back to the beginning. What was happening in your life that led you to start Florida Keys Bookkeeping?
[01:39] Ashley Jocic: So it was right when this COVID shutdowns had started. I was going through a separation from my previous husband of 11 years and I wasn't working. So I needed something to do. I needed to make some money, be productive, and it had to be something I could do remotely. I was already doing bookkeeping for my dad's business, and I remember seeing the relief on his face when he knew his bookkeeping and his bills were handled. Um, he was just so happy because he had a situation before that. That moment stuck with me, and I realized it was more than just data entry. It helps business owners with that mental burden of, am I doing this other piece of the business right?
[02:29] Michael Palmer: Yeah. So this was a, this was a, a big shift for you. Number one, you had some experience helping your dad, but then you've got this life situation with separation. You need to find some work or figure out what you're going to do with your life. And how did it, like, was it, did, Had you been thinking about it for a while or what was the other leading things that led you to this?
