Pure Bookkeeping started in Australia around 2005. Debbie Roberts had grown a successful bookkeeping firm from zero clients to a team of a dozen. Her business coach — Peter Cook — looked at what she'd built and proposed something audacious: what if every bookkeeper could install this system in their own firm? They packaged it, licensed it, and for the last 20 years it's been the operating system running inside 200+ bookkeeping firms globally.
In 2016, Michael Palmer launched The Successful Bookkeeper Podcast as the content arm of Pure Bookkeeping. The system alone wasn't enough — bookkeepers needed the story, the coaching, the community, and proof that people like them could actually do it.
One of those bookkeepers was Lisa Campbell. She watched a Michael Palmer webinar from a pool chair at her cottage, quietly implemented the system in her own firm, paid off six figures of debt, and eventually became CEO of the company that started her transformation. The podcast grew into programs. The programs grew into a community of 18,000 bookkeepers. The community grew into a paid membership, the Beyond Bookkeeping Summit, and peer advisory for established firms.
Today, The Successful Bookkeeper is the primary brand for the whole ecosystem — the front door for bookkeeping business owners coming to learn, grow, and find their people. Pure Bookkeeping is still the system, still licensed to firms globally, still the engine underneath. Same mission. Twenty-plus years in.
